Hyderabad: The BJP Telangana Vimochana Committee on Wednesday held a round table conference by demanding the government to celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day on September 17 as an official programme..
Dr Laxman BJP State President was the chief guest. Prominent people including political leaders, Professors, Intellectuals, writers participated in the conference.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Laxman said that since past 22 years, BJP was demanding the then governments and present Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) to celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day on September 17 as an official programme. But the rulers of the state were not celebrating it as official program due to vote bank politics and appeasement of minorities. Extruding confidence of winning the 2023 elections he said that the BJP would celebrate it as an official program once after securing the power in Telangana.
Stating that the BJP was making all efforts to create awareness among the people on the issue by conducting bus yatras and holding meetings, Dr. Laxman said the party would bring the issue to the Governor, President, and Centre as well.
Taking a swipe at Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, he charged the latter with extolling the ‘autocratic rule’ of Nizam and failing to declare the ‘Telangana Liberation Day’ as an official function on September 17.
“Instead of fulfilling the decades-old demand, which he himself raised vociferously during the separate Telangana movement cornering the then Congress government on the issue, Mr. Rao is showing reluctance to take measures in this direction,” Dr. Laxman alleged.
Dr. Laxman sought suggestions from political leaders, intellectuals, media and among others who attended the round table conference on how to Move forward on the Telangana Liberation Day issue.
Recalling the historical background of the Hyderabad Liberation Day, the speakers who spoke on the occasion suggested that the movement should bring into the grass-root level for creating awareness among the people.
Some of them suggested that the BJP should celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day on a large scale (with two lakh people) by hoisting National flag at Golkonda Fort in Hyderabad. Few of them suggested that the Center should create to celebrate the event compulsorily.
In his concluding remarks, former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya demanded that the TRS Government celebrate the Telangana Liberation Day on September 17, incorporate the life histories of the eminent freedom fighters, those who waged a valiant fight against the Razakars, in the school textbooks and honor the family members of the martyrs.
BJP Telangana Vimochana Committee Chairman N Srivardhan Reddy, Convenor Ch Swamy Goud and among others participated in the round table conference.
It may be noted here, soon after the British agreed to leave India and its subsequent partition in 1947, more than 500 princely states that had autonomy under British rule had acceded to either of the two countries – India or Pakistan. However, the Nizam of Hyderabad chose to remain independent and refused to join the Indian union.
Amidst growing apprehensions about an independent state in the heart of the Indian Territory, reports of atrocities by Razakars, and the communist uprising against feudalism in the state, the Indian Government launched a military operation on September 13, 1948 called, “Operation Polo”, resulting in the successful annexation of Hyderabad into the Indian union. It would become known as the “Police Action.” On September 17, 1948, Hyderabad merged with the union of India.
The Party also proposes to campaign across the State and show the clippings of KCR where he questioned the then Chief Minister Rosaiah as to why Telangana Liberation Day was not being celebrated officially and now after coming to power he refuses to celebrate it to appease the MIM with whom TRS has a coalition.
