New Delhi, April 17: Continuing its drive against illegal mining, the Centre will convene a meeting of state governments on April 28, to review the action taken to check the problem.
“Mines Secretary S Vijay Kumar, who will chair the meeting of Central Coordination-cum-Empowered Committee, has also asked the state governments to submit the report on action taken till March,” an official said.
The official added, “The meeting would also review the position regarding the constitution of high-level state committees and co-ordination with the railways, ports and customs departments,” which was suggested by the ministry earlier to crack down on illegal mining.
Besides, the Mines Ministry would also review the cases related to granting mineral concessions to minimise delays in awarding the licences, the official said, adding that steps taken by Ministry of Environment and Forests for expediting forest clearances will also be discussed.
