Govt releases new excise policy, liquor shops allocation

Andhra Pradesh government today released a new excise policy under which liquor shoops will be allotted on lottery system from July 1. The present licence period for the shops would be expiring on June 30. The new policy was adopted by the state government, which has faced a lot of heat on the illegal activities of liquor syndicates exposed by the Anti-Corruption bureau (ACB) officials. The new excise policy was finalised after the cabinet sub-committee headed by Minister for Secondary Education in-Charge Minister for Prohibition and Excise K Parthasarathy, who received various suggestions from the NGOs and associationas, submitted its recommendations recently. As per the new policy, the government would conduct auctions for 6596 liquor shops in the state by draw of lots. If any shop violates the rules framed in the new policy, the state government would run such shops after taking over it. UNI
