A decade earlier funeral rites of unclaimed Muslim bodies were not performed as per Islamic shariah. The unclaimed Muslim bodies of the persons who died in Osmania General Hospital, Gandhi Hospital, TB Hospital, Erragadda and various Aasra Ghar were burned which tantamount to desecration of Muslim bodies and violation of human rights. In such situation, on the direction of Siasat editor Mr. Zahed Ali Khan, Siasat daily started undertaking burial of unclaimed Muslim bodies. According to Mr. Syed Zahed Husain Shah Quadri, who is playing an active role in this virtuous deed, every month 30 to 35 bodies are buried on an average. Siasat daily has set an example by undertaking the task of performing funeral rites of unclaimed Muslim bodies, while it is reported that unclaimed Muslim bodies are either burned or piled up in a single pit in other districts.
In the year 2013 the then chairman of Waqf Baord had sought permission for burial of unclaimed bodies from state DGP. But sadly not a single burial took place by State Waqf Board so far.
On the other side Special Officer State Waqf Board Mr. Shaikh Mohammed Iqbal is very much impressed by the task undertaken by Siasat and told that Siasat’s work is exemplary and assured to extend complete support for the noble cause. He stood up in respect for Mr. Syed Zahed Husain Shah Quadri when both met.
