Govt official arrested in bribery case

Jalandhar, December 18: An auditor of Food and Civil Supplies Department was today arrested here for allegedly accepting bribe from a local resident, vigilance bureau sources said.

Jatinder Kumar, the accused, was attached to the office situated at Tara Singh Nagar, they said.

Harminder Singh, a resident of Kishanpura, had alleged that Kumar had demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 from him for issuing a ration card, they said, adding the deal was finalised for an amount of Rs 2,000.

The official was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting the bribe from Singh at his office premises, they added.

A case has been registered under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act in the Vigilance Bureau.
