Progressive Organization of Women of A.P. organized a rally from Bagh Lingampally to Indira Park to mark International Women’s Day. President of the organization, Ms. P. Sandhya while addressing a gathering at Indira park told that Governments are not serious about protecting women.
She alleged that by transforming Women’s Day into a festival, they are evading women’s issues. Despite coming to light the incidents of violence on women, Govt. has no plan of action to protect women from the atrocities.
She told that although Central Govt. announced Nirbhaya Fund and a budget allocation of Rs. One thousand crore but it has no plan of its proper utilization. Despite inviting attention towards the atrocities on women, Govt. is not taking any action to get justice for women. She said that Govt’s goodwill is needed for providing protection to women. Present on this occasion were Ms. Jhansi, Ms. Swaroopa, Ms. Janaki, Ms. Jaya, Ms. Godavari, Ms. Jyothi and other leaders of women’s organizations.
