‘Govt not prepared for SC hearing on Bhopal case’

Bhopal, April 12: An NGO fighting for Bhopal gas tragedy victims today charged that the Centre and Madhya Pradesh government have not made adequate preparations for hearing of the criminal curative petition tomorrow in the Supreme Court with regard to the Bhopal gas disaster of December 1984.

Addressing a press conference, Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Udyog Sangthan (BGPMUS) Convenor, Abdul Jabbar, said neither the Union Government nor the state had made any preparations for the hearing nor they have spoken to the organisations of gas victims or taken the opinion of legal experts.

The BGPMUS Convenor said he felt that this was being done deliberately to help Union Carbide officials and blunt the edge of the attack that the governments were facing after the June 7 verdict of the Chief Judicial magistrate here.
