Govt negligence causing global warming & climate change: Yanamala

TDP Politburo member Yanamala Rama Krishnudu has stated that people were being put to untold suffering because of the climatic changes due to global warming, which was the result of government’s negligence.

Members of the Indian Youth Climate Network (IYCN) met Yanamala at the NTR Trust Bhavan, headquarters of the party, here on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Yanamala said that the governments were callous in their attitude towards climate change due to global warming, affecting the lives of 70 percent of the people living on agriculture and in villages. Indiscriminate felling of forests and negligence of the government in growing social forests was resulting in severe drought conditions, he said and this had thrown agriculture into serious crisis. He also said that this had also led to growth of poverty. He said life was being destroyed indiscriminately in the coastal regions, resulting in frequents natural calamities. He said that monsoon was failing in Andhra Pradesh, because of government’s negligence towards afforestation, leading to a crisis in the agriculture sector.

Yanamala also said that the policies being followed by the Congress governments in the State and at the Centre were making the poor poorer and the rich richer. He said that his party was committed to remove these disparities. Stating that there was an urgent need to find alternative resources for the country’s energy needs, Yanamala said the country should shift to green economy from brown economy on war-footing. He said steps would be taken in this direction, after TDP came to power.

TDP leader Sail Reddy appreciated the efforts of the IYCN for organizing “Connecting the Dots” an awareness campaign on environmental changes on May 5. S S Prasad, Sai Priya, Nitin Choudary, Yasaswini and Sri Krishna were among the IYCN members, who visited the TDP office. (NSS)
