Govt needs to give serious thought to foodgrains export: Pawar

New Delhi, April 06: Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today said the government needs to give serious thought on storage, allocation of foodgrains to states and exports, as the country is estimated to have harvested record production this crop year.

“This year’s production is highest ever since 1947.

There should not be any problem. The government of India has to take a serious thought on storage, allocation of foodgrains to states and exports,” Pawar told reporters.

He was replying to a query on whether the government should allow exports of rice and wheat, considering bumper production this crop year. India’s foodgrains production is estimated at a record 235.88 million tonnes in the 2010-11 crop year, ending June, on the back of the highest-ever output of wheat and pulses.
