Govt mulling quota for pro-environment students: CM

Hyderabad, August 27: Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Thursday stated that the government is mulling a proposal to provide reservation in education and employment sector for those students who participate in protection of environment activities, on the lines of National Cadet Course candidates.

Talking to media persons after inaugurating the four–day conference of National Green Corps at the Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) Auditorium, the Chief Minister said that the government would implement reservation for the students who participate in environmental awareness activities, in education and jobs after discussing with officials concerned.

Mr Rosaiah called upon environmental organizations and experts to focus on providing clean environment for posterity. “The tender children can cleanse the environment if they were guided properly,” he stated.

The Chief Minister called upon parents to guide children and create awareness on the environment properly.

The State is hosting the first ever National Conference of Children and Youth under the aegis of National Green Corps.

The state is considered to be the foremost in implementation of the 10-year-old National Green Corps environmental education programmes in the country by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests.

The conference will focus on exchange of environmental programme ideas and recognise the efforts of children in environment conservation.

Forest Minister P Ramachandra Reddy was also present on the ocassion.

About 150 representatives from 18 states attended the conference.
