Govt. may buy time in Radia tapes case

New Delhi, February 24: The Finance Ministry may buy time from the Supreme Court on Thursday in the Niira Radia tape case, sources said. The Supreme Court had given the ministry 60 days’ time to investigate the leak. The ministry has been told to reveal the source who leaked the tapes to the media. The court deadline is due to expire on Thursday.

Sources told to media, the ministry may not reveal the name before the Budget session as it may be embarrassing for the government.

The ministry started the probe into the leaked tapes on December 24. Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata had approached the court seeking a stay on the tapes on the plea of right to privacy. Tata’s conversations with the corporate lobbyist had also been leaked to the media.
