Govt may announce more sops to boost exports

New Delhi, November 04: The government may come out with more sector-specific incentives to boost exports, which it believes would improve in the January-March quarter as demands pick up in traditional markets like the US.

“I have tasked the Commerce Secretary to conduct a review across sectors regarding the impact of the measures taken and we are committed to provide additional assistance wherever it is warranted,” Commerce and Industry Minster Anand Sharma said at the Economic Editors’ Conference here.

He said there had been a discernible turnaround in major economies which were severely impacted by the economic and financial crises, and this had a positive impact.

“Steep fall in exports has been arrested. In the final quarter of this fiscal, we will see positive growth,” Sharma said.

India’s exports began contracting due to the global meltdown a year ago.
