Govt lost control over police: Prof. Hargopal

Human Rights activist Prof Haragopal on Tuesday alleged that the state government was trying to defame the Telangana movement citing few violent incidents during the Telangana March.

Speaking at a media conference here, Prof Haragopal reminded that Union Home Minister Susheel Kumar Shinde himself had thanked the Telangana people for conducting the Telangana March peacefully. In spite of this, how can the police file cases against T JAC leaders, he questioned.

Referring to the violent incidents that took place during the Telangana March, he said that the government should order an inquiry to find out who were responsible for the incidents. Instead, the government was deliberately defaming the entire Telangana movement citing such incidents, he regretted.

He alleged that the Government has lost control over the police. The people had a right to conduct peaceful meetings and there was no need to take police permission for it as per the Constitution of India. The organizers should just inform the matter to the police to provide security. Though permission was given to the Telangana March, the police arranged barricades on the roads leading to the venue, he regretted.

Prof Haragopal felt that it would be dangerous to the state, if it tries to hush up Telangana movement using police forces. Government was alone responsible, if Telangana movement turns violent. Telangana issue should be resolved politically, he opined.
