Govt laying stress on primary

Hyderabad, November 15: The State Government is keen to provide more facilities for the development of primary education in the State and is taking all possible steps to provide primary education to every child in rural areas, Chief Minister K Rosaiah has said.

He was speaking at the Children’s Day celebrations organised jointly by the departments of Women Development, Child Welfare and Disabled Welfare, and Secondary, Higher Education and Labour, Employment at Ravindra Bharati here today.

Rosaiah said that when YS Rajasekhara Reddy was the chief minister, he strove to establish as many as 16 universities, including a horticultural university and three IIITs, across the State. “To face competition from corporate educational institutions, teachers working in government schools should hone their skills to produce good students.’’ He said that at least 22 lakh children aged between 3 and 6 years were getting better primary education at 80,434 Anganwadi centres. “We are planning to make all Anganwadi centres the best educational institutions at primary level to provide quality education than the private educational institutions in the State,’’ he said.

Later, Rosaiah released the preschool curriculum for Anganwadi students and distributed certificates to students covered under the Girl Child Protection Scheme (GCPS).

He also presented certificates and medals to 107 best teachers.

Minister for Higher Education D Sridhar Babu, Minister for Secondary Education D Manikya Vara Prasad, Minister for Primary Education Mohd Ahmadulla Syed, Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education (APSCHE) Chairman KC Reddy and others attended.
