UP govt launches scheme to bring transparency into PDS

Lucknow, April 26: Aimed at bringing transparency in the public distribution system, the Uttar Pradesh government today launched a scheme according to which villagers be informed through SMS of the amount of foodgrains and kerosene being lifted by ration shops in their areas.

“Through the scheme, at least 10 villagers each would be informed through SMS the amount of foodgrains and kerosene being lifted by the fair price shops of their respective areas to bring transparency in the system,” Commissioner Food and Civil Supplies Rajiv Agrawal said.

A day after the quota holder lifts the goods from the godowns, the APL, BPL and antoday card holders of their areas would be informed about it.

The pilot project was today launched by state chief secretary A K Gupta from Bahraich and Jalaun and the government plans to expand it in the entire state in two month’s time, Agrawal said.
