New Delhi: Investigating agencies are making an attempt to sought out some legal issues before stating any action against the NGO of Zakir Naik, Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) under Foreign Contributions (Regulation) Act of 2010.
They are trying to find out whether “Islamic education” comes under “educational” or “religious purpose” as stipulated in the law and the absence of an anti-conversion law in Maharashtra.
Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India is examining the possibility of any violation of FCRA by his trust which has been registered to discharge “educational” activities. It is reported that this agency is receiving foreign funds for religious religion-linked activities.
It is yet to be decided whether “Islamic teaching” can be termed as “educational” or “religious” activity. It has to be ascertain whether “teaching comparative religion” could be classified as a religious activity, as only then, would it constitute a valid ground for cancellation of FCRA license of IRF educational trust.
It may be mentioned that IRF Educational Trust manages Islamic International School in Mumbai.
