Govt. Intervention in Medical College Admissions opposed

The suggestion of the Governor of A.P for carrying out admission process of private Medical Colleges also online was opposed by the private medical college managements.It was apprehended that such a decision would hamper the admission process in the beginning of the year.

Dr.G.Bhaskara Roa of G.S.L.Medical College,Gunter opposed the intervention of the Govt in the management quota of medical seats.If this procedure is adopted, the managements of private medical colleges won’t be in a position to meet the annual expenses.he suggested that if the Govt. decides to implement any policy decision It should announce in the beginning of the year so that the implementation could be ensured.He pointed out that in compliance with the Judgement of the Supreme Court,all the private medical college mamnagements have to complete the process of admission by 30th September of every year.He said that it is possible to implement this decision from 2013.

On inquiring about the sale of management quota of seats by medical colleges,he said that an expenditure of Rs 300 crore is needed to establish a medical college and for maintaining, it again requires Rs 50 per year.It is not possible to run private medical colleges on the rates prescribed by the Govt. Neither the Central Govt nor the State Govt. provide any financial assistance to private medical colleges.He further mentioned that Govt.spends Rs.10lakh on educating a medical student.How can ,then private medical colleges manage within this meager amount?
Private Medical Colleges are managed by the fees they receive from the students. Mr.Konda Murali,Minister for medical education clarified that during the current academic year,admissions in private medical colleges will be made as per the G.O.No 136
On the issue of reduction of medical seats in the medical colleges of the state, he told that he is proceeding to New Delhi to represent about the decision of Medical Council of India for reducing medical seats to Health Minister Mr.Ghualm Nabi Azad He told that Medical council of India reduced medical seats on trivilal issues like inadequate supply of drinking water. TRS leaders have strongly protested against this decision.
