Govt gaining Upper hand

Hyderabad, October 17: True to the reports that he was asked by the Congress high command to perform or perish in one month, Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has started taking stern action to curb the ongoing Sakala Janula Samme and started getting results.

The much-talked about three-day rail-roko has suddenly ended when several VIPs including TRS and Congress MPs were arrested under non-bailable sections. The Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) has surprisingly called of the train blockade on Monday, the third day of the rail-roko agitation. May be the TJAC was intimidated or may be it has decided to call off the stir, as it did not want to implicate innocent agitators in stringent non-bailable laws, which may put them away in jails for several years. Whatever the reason, the government can claim this to be a victory.

The second victory is the calling off of the APSRTC employees strike. In the third notable achievement, the government could convince teachers to report back to duty. Though teachers leaders have declared that they would work without taking salaries, it would not be long before the government would succeed in persuading the poor teachers who deprived their families from two important festivals, in making them accept salaries.

Today, the Singareni Collieries management has called the striking employees for talks and going by the present trend, there would be no wonder if the management succeeded in persuading them to report to duty. It should be remembered that when a section of employees give in, the morale of other sections also would be affected and the government would successfully play on the fears of the poor wage earners to break the strikes. It should now be seen how long the government employees would hold on.

One should remember in this context, No one who is fond of achieving separate Telangana state should ever blame the employees, who have valiantly fought for the cause. Now it is the turn of the politicians to show their commitment for Telangana and finish what the employees have started.
