Govt Flayed For Leaving Gulf Victims In Lurch

The Migrants Rights Council has ridiculed the State government for rushing an official delegation to Dubai after the expiry of Amnesty given by the United Arab Emirates government.

Speaking to the media here on Sunday, MRC president P. Narayanaswamy and vice-president Manda Bheem Reddy described the ‘benevolence’ of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Redy and Civil Supplies Minister D. Sreedhar Babu going to the airport and receiving the Gulf returnees after the damage has been done as mere “eye wash” and publicity stunt.

Stating that the State government had miserably failed to create confidence in the Gulf victims, they demanded that the State government appoint a minister exclusively for NRI affairs.. While 18,000 illegal immigrants were still living in the UAE, the 1800 Gulf returnees could not avail the Amnesty declared by that country, they bemoaned.

Stating that they have received information that Indians working in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah were being arrested and jailed with the expiry of Amnesty, they demanded that the State government pay penalty on their behalf and bring them back to the country. (NSS)
