Although Telangana government is serious in protecting Waqf properties and removing illegal occupation but it evades taking any brave step thanks to the pressure of local political party. During the past 8 months government tried to protect Waqf properties worth crores of rupees by appointing honest and dedicated officers. But its purpose is not fulfilled thanks to political intervention in the board activities.
Government sources during their personal talk admit that setting up of Commissionerate is inevitable to improve the present system however the proposal is being opposed by local political party so that its influence is retained on the board. Every possible attempt is made to stop action taken by Shaikh Mohammed Iqbal (IPS) as special Officer. Present Special Officer Jalaluddin Akber (IFS) tried to continue previous action and took some brave decisions in connection with important properties on which local party express resentment and approached government to appoint Special Officer of their choice. The party is said to have presented names of such officers to whom it wants to see on the post of Special Officer so that it can make him work according to its wishes.
