New Delhi, April 09: The government will consider on Friday six proposals, including that of Larsen & Toubro and Cochin International Airports, for developing new special economic zones.
The inter-ministerial Board of Approval (BoA) headed by Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar would also take decision on requests of three developers – Estra IT Park, Unitech Infopark and Wardha Power Company – who want to surrender their SEZs.
Besides, the Board would consider the request of as many as 29 developers, including Ranbaxy Laboratories, HCL Technologies, Parsvnath SEZ and Lodha Dewellers, for extra time to develop their tax-free enclaves,, an official said.
Larsen & Toubro has plans to set up an IT\ITeS SEZ in Mysore, Karnataka, over 10 hectares while Cochin International Airports is seeking government’s nod to set up an airport based tax-free zone over 100 hectare in Ernakulam, Kerala.
The special economic zone (SEZ) sector has attracted more than $28 billion investments over the past three-and-a-half years in the 105 zones that are now operational. It included some $6 billion of FDI.
