Govt to continue domestic gas subsidy: Sridhar Babu

Hyderabad, January 13 (INN): Civil Supplies Minister D Sridhar Babu on Thursday stated that there was no proposal to lift Rs 25 subsidy being given on the domestic gas cylinders. He said the State Government would continue to bear the burden.

Talking to media persons after emerging out of Cabinet Sub-committee meeting held to monitor the prices of essential commodities at the Secretariat, Sridhar Babu said that the government would continue the subsidy and condemned the reports that appeared in a section of media that the government might drop the subsidy due to heavy burden on the exchequer. He said the government would continue subsidies on pulses and take firm steps for containing skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.

The minister also took serious note on YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy’s allegations that the State Government has totally failed to implement the schemes of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. Stating that the government has continued all the schemes effectively, he asked Jagan Mohan Reddy to disclose the details of scheme which has been dropped.

Sridhar Babu also criticized Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief K Chandrasekhar Rao for allowing Jagan’s deeksha on farmers issue in Telangana region without making his stand clear on statehood issue. Objecting to Jagan’s deeksha in Armoor, he asked KCR to disclose the `secret pact’ he had with Jagan in this regard.

Expressing confidence that the Congress would sweep the by-elections, he said that the fear of debeat have forced the opposition parties to take up padayatras and deekshas in the region. (INN)
