Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Botcha Satyanarayana today said the government is consulting legal experts on conducting local body elections under the existing reservation system.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court earlier had directed the state government to fix only 50 per cent reservation for SC/ST/BCs in the local bodies.
‘We would honour the court orders. But it is very difficult to conduct census immediately for the elections as directed by the court,’ Mr Botcha told reporters here today. A detailed discussions among political parties on conducting elections following the existing reservation system this time is needed, he said. The Congress Party was asking the government to take legal openion to plead in the Hight Court to allow local body elections under the existing reservation system this time, he added. In the 2006 elections to 22 zilla parishads, 1,097 mandal parishads and 21,807 gram panchayats, the state had provided 60.55 percent reservations. UNI
