New Delhi, November 29: Congress president Sonia Gandhi today reaffirmed the UPA government s commitment to weeding out corruption and asked the youth to come forward for nation building. In her first public speech since her surgery in the US, Ms Gandhi said at a Youth Congress convention here that the Congress had always in the forefront in pro-people policies and the UPA government, under Manmohan Singh s leadership, had been working on pro-people policies. Describing the Indian Youth Congress as the foundation of the Congress and people s hope, she praised it for holding organisational elections and said former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi s decision to lower the voting age to 18 had helped in including lakhs of youth in the democratic process. Highlighting the UPA government s decisions, the Congress president said the government had introduced the RTI, the Forest Rights Act and the Right to Food Bill.
