Govt committed to uplift of BCs on all fronts: CM

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has called upon the officials to play a pivotal role in ensuring the fruits of various welfare programs in the State reach the people.

Speaking as the chief guest at two-day review meeting of the State-level BC Welfare Department officials at the National Institute of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises at Yousufguda here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said that a Rs 3,017-crore budget was allocated this year to the BC Welfare department with a view to make BCs march forward in all sectors. He pointed out that while Rs 158 crores per year was allocated to the BC department between 1994 and 2004 and Rs 900 crores per year between 2004 and 2011. The Chief Minister reminded that the officials have bounden duty to see that the fruits of BC welfare programs reached the beneficiaries.

Exhorting the officials to ensure transparency and correctness in spending the allocated amounts, the Chief Minister said that he would release more funds for BC welfare if the officials concerned showed good results. He said that the government was disbursing scholarships to the BC students with a view to enable them not only to earn livelihood but also to improve the thinking for good life.

Stating that 15 Study circles were opened in the State to give free training to the BC students appearing for competitive examinations, the Chief Minister said that his government was planning to open seven more study centers for their welfare. Besides, one or two study circles would be opened in every district for all the students, irrespective of the castes, he added.

Minister for BC Welfare Basavaraju Saraiah exhorted the officials to strive for development and welfare of Bachward Classes. Stating that hostels for boys and girls were opened in every Assembly constituency, Saraiah said that special efforts were being made through Study Circles to impart good training and procure jobs to BC children through Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu scheme.
