Govt Committed to Start Ten New Medical Colleges–Minister

The  Minister for Medical and Health Dr C Lakshma Reddy  today  asserted  that the  government is committed to establish one government medical college in each of the 10 erstwhile districts in Telangana, and as a part of this assurance, the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has recently announced two new medical colleges, one at  Nalgonda and  the other in  Suryapet.

Replying to questions in the Legislative Council,  the Minister  said that at present  six medical colleges are being run under the government in the State,  and permission is awaited for starting a   medical college at Medak.

           

He pointed out that after formation of Telangana State, the government succeeded in securing additional seats in the medical stream at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in both government and private colleges.

           

Dr Reddy said that after acquisition of land in Nalgonda and Suryapet districts, proposals for starting medical colleges would be sent to the Medical Council of India and the Central government for permission.

           

He further said that the government is  committed to develop ‘Ayush’ homoeopathy services by allocating  As part of strengthening Ayush services, the department is developing  the  Nature Cure hospital at Balkampet in the city.(NSS)
