Govt committed to maintaining peace: Nepal PM

New Delhi, August 18: Nepal Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal met a 16-member delegation of Nepal-Democracy Solidarity Committee this evening, during which he asserted on his government’s firm commitment towards maintaining the peace process in his country.

Nepal, who earlier arrived here on a five-day maiden goodwill visit, after he took over as PM of his country in May this year, met leaders and representatives of parties like Congress, CPI, JD(U), RJD, JD(S), Rashtriya Lok Dal, and NCP, which constitute the committee.

NCP leader D P Tripathi, who is the chairperson of the committee told PTI later that Nepal during the meeting said that his visit has come at a crucial juncture when there are new governments in both India and Nepal.

“The Nepal PM said he will try and resolve all outstanding issues with India,” Tripathi said.

Representatives of all parties spoke during the meeting, during which RJD leader Prem Chand Gupta also raised the issue of Kosi barrage.

Tripathi said it was the first such occasion when a Nepalese Prime Minister had met a delegation of a large conglomeration of parties.

Nepal-Democracy Solidarity Committee is a body of non-BJP parties, which was formed in 2005, after the then Nepal King Gyanendra had ousted the Deuba government.
