Govt clears Rs 50,000 crop loans: Chandrababu

AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced in the Assembly that the crop loans up to Rs 50,000 will be waived soon. As promised, the TDP government will clear all the loans obtained between 2007 and 2013, he said.
Refuting the criticism by Leader of the Opposition YS Jagan mohan Reddy in the Assembly on Monday, the Chief Minister said, “We will keep our promise on this count and follow RBI norms of scale of finance above that amount”. He said the government needs real studies and not case studies touched upon by Jaganmohan Reddy. The Government has set some norms and cleared the loans by interest into account, Chandrababu declared.

The Leader of the House has slammed the comments of the Leader of the Opposition that the government was reluctant to implement the much-hyped scheme of agricultural loan waiver.

Revealing reports that some farmers have taken loans from five banks and others even from 10 banks, Chandrababu said the government would scrutinize the details and move further on the loan waiver scheme. Jagan sought clarity on how it will clear Rs 87,000 crore crop loans and Rs 17,000-crore DWCRA loans pending. There is a need for the government to shift its focus on the issue.

Intervening at this point, Labor Minister Atchen Naidu opposed Jagan. He said YSRCP has no right to talk on loan waiver which led the House witness uproar. (NSS)
