The Liquor Control Movement Committee has demanded the state government to declare its stand on belt shops, which were illegally running in the state.
Speaking to the media persons here on Tuesday, committee state convener V. Laxmana Reddy demanded the state government to immediately shut down the two lakh illegally run liquor belt- shops. He wanted the Sate government itself to run at least half of the liquor shops through the State Beverages Corporation. He alleged the state government has not included the belt shops issue in the new excise policy.
POW state president V. Sandhya demanded the state government to remove the liquor shops beside the National and State Highways in the state. She said that the road accidents were occurring due to drivers consuming liquor. She wanted the state government to take steps to control the road accidents by removing liquor shops on the roadside. She urged it to set up d-addition centres at every district headquarters to make people give up consumion of liquor.
Dalit leader Korivi Vinay Kumar said that they would organize dharna and protest demonstration at the Excise office on June 26 demanding the state government to remove belt shops, at least half of the liquor shops, removing liquor shops on roads, and against the new excise policy across the state.
IDWA secretary, K. Swarooparani, Mahila Samakhya leader Jyothi, APSA coordinator Sivarani were also present. (NSS)
