Keeping in view of the critical juncture in power sector due to shortage of fuel, Andhra Pradesh Energy Coordination Cell (ECC) today appealed to all the electricity consumers for inculcating the habit of energy conservation by treating as a social responsibility.
For the first time, the AP Utilities appealed through an open letter to the consumers for extending their support to the DISCOMs in successful implementation of Energy Conservation (EC) programmes throughout the state as one unit saved is equivalent to 1.2 units produced. As a short term measure the power utilities have finalized orders and entered agreements for procurement of power around 1300 MW per month till May 2013. As a medium term measure, the AP power utilities are in the process of purchasing of around 1000 MW power from June, 2013 to June, 2016 by forecasting the future requirements of the electricity consumers. In spite of taking all measures, though it is painful, power cuts have become inevitable in view of ever increasing demand and to protect the grid from collapsing which was recently happened in North India and more than 60 crore people suffered for want of power.
