Puducherry: Chief Minister N Rangasamy today handed over letters for admission to 20 candidates from the Union Territory of Puducherry belonging to Backward Class, Most Backward Class and minorities to undergo coaching for the civil service examination in Chennai.
He also handed first instalment of Rs 5000 to each of them as cash assistance to enable them meet their expenses during their stay in Chennai.
The candidates, all of whom are graduates, have been sponsored by the Corporation for Development of BCs, MBCs and Minorities and would join the Manidha Neyam Coaching Centre for civil service examination in Chennai, a release from the CM’s office said.
They would undergo coaching for the competitive exam for a year, beginning on October 5. Government has set apart Rs 20 crore in 2015-16 fiscal for assistance to them.
Welfare Minister P Rajavelu, Chairman of the Corporation Balamurugan and welfare Department officials were among those present.
The government had introduced the scheme to assist the aspirants for the civil services in 2013.
