Mumbai, October 02: Look what’s back… Bollywood’s Jodi No 1, the irrepressible and heady combo of David Dhawan and Govinda — one the Pasha of Comedy who has made 40-odd films, the other our film industry’s original Comedy King.
Together, they return today in Vashu Bhagnani’s Do Knot Disturb for BIG Pictures. Will they have audiences cracking up in the aisles as they did in Aankhen, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Haseena Man Jayegi, Jodi No.1, Coolie No 1, Hero No 1, Deewana Mastana and Partner? There’s no reason why they shouldn’t. Backed by such a strong box office history, it’s hardly surprising that an excited audience awaits this talented twosome today.
If onscreen these two are potent, off-screen David and Govinda have a mutual admiration for one another. Says David, “Govinda is a dream to work with. A real gem. As an actor he is near perfect. You don’t have to guide him on anything, especially when it comes to comedy. We understand each other perfectly and when we’re on a set, shooting is a cakewalk. I’m fortunate to have worked with him on so many of my projects. A filmmaker depends largely on his lead actor and here I must say, Govinda has never let me down.’’
Govinda, too, is all praise for David. “He is one of the biggest brands in the business,’’ says Govinda, “I feel safest when I am in his hands. The two of us have also been lucky for each other.’’ David, who feels that the combination of producer Vashu, Govinda and himself is extra special, adds, “There are few filmmakers who give you complete freedom. Vashu’s dreams have always been larger than life. And because we three have made some memorable films together, I feel more confident each time I team up with them.’’
