Mumbai, JUly 23: Industry rumours have it that director Mani Ratnam and Govinda are not looking eye to eye and have had a fall out after Govinda apparently skipped shooting of his forthcoming film Raavan – not once but thrice, leaving Mani fuming with anger.
Mani is known for being very particular about punctuality and a strict discipline is observed by every actor, big or small, on the sets of his projects. Govinda still has dubbing left to complete with his director.
A source close to the development says, “Govinda and Mani Ratnam were gelling very well until the Ooty schedule started. Govinda might have rumours around him that he is unprofessional and that he hallucinates but with Mani sir he was spot on, always on time and delivering at every requirement. It became a joke on the sets that he was so punctual.”
The insider adds, “The sets were constructed for shooting to begin and Govinda had a chunky part to shoot quickly. He skipped the first day, leaving the crew stranded. Everyone thought that he must be tied up with something very serious but then he followed it up with two more days and Mani was very upset as sets were in place and everyday lots of production cost was going down the drains. No one knew where he was.”
Our informer further says, “From that day their relationship has gone for a toss and this might spell bad news for the actor as he has to do dubbing with Mani sir. Govinda has been trying to make up for it too but working real hard but things have gone sour. We have seen actors who fell out with directors lose out during post-production with screen time cut and someone else dubbing for that person, but knowing how professional Mani is, Govinda will be safe.” Govinda remained unavailable for comment.
