Governor ESL Narasimhan here on Tuesday said the government would strengthen the handloom cooperative societies by providing adequate assistance. He also called upon the DWCRA women to avail of the benefits under several welfare programs launched by the government.
The Governor, accompanied by his wife Vimala Narasimhan, today toured Koyyalagudem, Allapuram and Manchollagudem under Choutuppal mandal of Nalgonda district. They visited handloom cooperative society building in Koyyalagudem and inspected looms and cloth. The Governor patted the handloom workers on seeing the finely woven silk saris. He also inspected the articles produced by the DWCRA women. Later, he held a meeting with the members of the IKP and DWACRA women’s societies.
The Governor also visited the paddy purchase center set up by the IKP and examined the handloom fabrics made by the DWACRA women. He also inspected a water plant in Allapur set up by a voluntary organization for the benefit of the fluoride affected people.
While the Governor was proceeding to Manchollagudem, womenfolk stopped the Governor’s convoy and brought the problem of water crisis to his notice. Responding to their appeal, the Governor instructed district Collector Mukteshwar Rao to take immediate action and help solve the problem. Later, he visited the Central Soil Testing Institute in Manchollagudem and held a meeting with geologists.
The Governor enquired with the geologists about the groundwater level and assured the people that steps would be taken to provide fluoride-free water to the people in all the villages in the district. (NSS)
