Governor returns ordinance to Karnataka govt

Bangalore, January 15: Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj has returned to the BJP government its ordinance on a scheme that sought to regularise “illegal” buildings saying he cannot bypass the legislature and the judiciary.

“I have sent back the file”, he told reporters in response to questions about the scheme that sought to regularise with penalty, houses and buildings that violated norms.

“Basically in 2004, this matter started when (then) governor T N Chaturvedi returned it (ordinance) with this message. Then they (the state government) took three years to rectify…objections and then law was passed,” Bhardwaj said.

“It was (then) challenged in the high court and the high court has stayed it. Do you expect me to bypass legislature and judiciary both and do something which I don’t know at all. So, I said after the (BBMP) elections, debate it and come back,” he said.
