Governor returns as Delhi meetings cancelled

Hyderabad: Governor ESL Narasimhan today returned home after abruptly winding up his two-day official visit to the national capital. Narasimhan could not meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh despite getting prior appointments.

According to the information, the Governor of the two Telugu States was summoned by the Centre and he stayed in Delhi on Tuesday and Wednesday. As the Prime Minister was on a foreign trip, the PMO officials have cancelled the meeting, it is said. Similarly Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had to cancel the same as he was busy with another important meeting. As a result, the meeting scheduled at 9.30 am was cancelled for reasons not known.

The meeting of the governor with the prime minister was fixed at 3.00 pmon Wednesday and was later on cancelled. It may be said here that the Centre has called the Governor for a meeting to get the details of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Before his Delhi tour, Narasimhan already met with Chief Ministers K Chandrasekhar Rao and N Chandrababu Naidu. KCR and Naidu have been unhappy with the Centre and raised a banner of revolt for some time. While TRS MPs staged protests in Parliament for 12 quota for Muslims and STs, the TD leaders created ruckus in and outside parliament during its session for special category status and promises of bifurcation act. With no other go Chandrababu had to snap his ties with the BJP led NDA Government at the Centre as Narendra Modi Government could not deliver SCS.

At this juncture, the Centre called the Governor for a meeting which failed to take place. However, the Governor had reportedly persuaded both KCR and Naidu to shun differences with the Centre keeping in view the development of the states. The Governor had to beat a retreat as he could not meet and submit a report to the Centre on the current political scenario, law and order situation of and others. (NSS)
