Hyderabad, April 26:The Governor, Mr E S L Narasimhan, on Monday, appealed to the people to get their names enumerated in the 2011 Census.
Launching the “Houselisting and Housing Census of India-2011” at Raj Bhavan here this morning, Mr Narasimhan said the accurate data availability on the public and their livelihoods would help take correct policy decisions.
He also stressed the need to collect the data accurately during the Census.
He asked the people to furnish their personal information to the government during census operation instead of the enumerators visiting each household.
He opined that the idea of sending census forms to citizens for filling them up and submitting to the government would save time for the enumerators and inculcate a sense of responsibility among the citizenry.
A pilot project can be undertaken in this regard, he added.
Lack of response from the people should be made a punishable offence at a later stage, he said.
Terming the census work as a ‘mammoth task’, the Governor said that the facilities being availed of by the people, education and job profile should be collected during the census.
The Census-2011 will continue till June 10 in Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts. The particulars of about 10 million people will be captured in one single database for the Greater Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy during the next 45 days.
The biometric and Iris-based identity database along with the unique identification number (UID) will benefit the common man in many ways.
It will also obviate the need for procuring multiple documentary proofs of identity by an individual for availing government or private services.
Over 12,000 enumerators, including 8,000 in GHMC and 4,000 in Ranga Reddy, will be engaged in the National Census Project.
The Census will be taken up in two phases.
House listing and collection of information from April 26 to June 10 for National Population Register will be taken up in the first phase while population enumeration in second phase.NSS
