Attorney-General of India, Mukul Rohatgi tendered his advise that Governor, E.S.L. Narasimhan has the powers to maintain Law and Order. He has requested the Governor to take necessary steps to resolve the Cash-for-Vote case.
Referring to Section 8 of AP Reorganization Act of 2014, Governor has been given special powers for maintaining Law and Order in Hyderabad. In view of this, Governor should summon the police officials of both the states and supervise the investigation process.
Advocate General opined that since Hyderabad is the common capital for both the states, the police forces of A.P. and Telangana have jurisdiction in Hyderabad.
As per the Section 8 of the A.P. Reorganization Act, the Governor has been entrusted with the responsibility of security of life, freedom and property of all the resident including maintenance of Law and Order, Security of important installations and allocation of Govt. buildings in Hyderabad.
