Governor E.S.L Narasimhan today deplored that standards in the higher education have deteriorated in the State.
Addressing the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad III Convocation here on Monday, Narasiman asked how colleges gave seats to the students, who secured zero marks in the examinations. He also faulted the threat of Engineering Colleges’ Managements to close down colleges as there was delay in the payment of fee reimbursement.
Narasimhan also exhorted the youth to come forward to set up educational institutions to provide quality education to children. He said that professional and personal integrity play key role in grooming the students into good citizens. He also said that the destiny of the country would be scripted by the transformed minds which will have to break free from the mould of set order of thinking. There was a need to endow the scholars with skill sets and capabilities in line with emerging challenges, he added. He said that the challenge of education was not merely to shape the minds, but the hearts as well and good education should result in the emergence of a complete man or woman.
Narasimhan presented Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) to Chairman Emeritus, Infosys, N. R. Narayana Murthy at the function. He presented gold medals to 48 meritorious students in various engineering branches.
Vice Chancellor Prof Rameshwar Rao said that the University has taken initiatives to start a new campus at Singur in Medak district responding to the government’s call to provide access to quality technical education in the rural areas in the State. The new campus offers B.Tech in four disciplines like Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Civil and Environmental Engineering and Material Science and Nano Technology.
