Hyderabad, December 17: Calling on people to emulate the spirit of Muharram, which is to sacrifice, Governor ESL Narasimhan on Thursday stated that the event symbolizes the spirit of sacrifice which is placed above all the virtues of mankind.
Mr Narasimhan, in his message said that Muharram commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Holy Prophet, who sacrificed his life at the altar of true belief.
The sacred event has ever since been a source of inspiration to humanity in general and the Muslim brethren in particular all over the globe for generations past and generations to come.
Remembrance of goodness and sacrifice is the true meaning of Muharram, he said and called on the people of the state to emulate the spirit of Muharram which embodies humanism which is central to Islam.
