Governor asks Indian companies to focus on defence manufacturing

Governor ESL Narasimhan on Sunday called upon the Indian companies to focus on investments in defence manufacturing.

Addressing the valedictory function of national seminar on “Self Reliance In Defence Manufacturing” organised by Forum for Integrated National Security (FINS) here, the Governor said instead of instead of depending on imports, India should concentrate on becoming self reliant on defence manufacturing. He said lots of risks were involved in importing defence equipment from other country. Besides facing the risk of leakage of defence secrets, India spends its foreign reserves for import of defence products.

The Governor said that India has talent, capability and also required funding to begin defence production indigenously. He said India’s defence research is of top quality.

Narasimhan also advised the defence experts to concentrate to counter the coming era of cyber war. He said precautions should be taken at levels to ensure cyber security.

FINS National President Lt Gen (Retd) D B Shekharkar, Vice-President Lt Gen (Retd) VM Patil and Secretary General Bal Desai also spoke. (INN)
