New Delhi: The UP Government has sent proposals to the cabinet to rename the town ‘Mughalsarai’ after Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Deendayal Upadhyaya said the sources.
Last month in June, the UP cabinet had agreed to rename the Mughal Sarai railway station after the late leader Sangh parivar leader Deendayal Upadhyaya.
A senior home ministry official was quoted saying ‘The main objective behind the proposal seems to be to remove the word ‘Mughal’ from the name,’ and that ‘A final decision will be taken soon’.
According to the sources the Centre Cabinet was likely to accept the UP Government’s proposal as it was reportedly celebrating the late leader’s centenary.
The Sangh Parivar leader was found dead on February 11, 1968 under mysterious circumstances near Mughalsarai station.
According to the ministry sources, the Centre has to draft a bill for renaming a city, town or a state and send it for the Assembly’s approval. Once the Assembly gives it nod, the bill is then passed in the Parliament.
Earlier in April, the UP Government was also in talks for renaming the Agra airport after the leader but so far no proposals have been sent yet. It had also announced that all state libraries will have the late leader’s name and that the state transport department was directed to hold painting competition in his honour, with an award prize of Rs 1 lakh for the winner, the Telegraph reported.
