New Delhi, November 07: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has accused the Union government of standing “helplessly in front of anti-nationals like Hurriyat faction chief Syed Ali Shah Geelani and writer Arundhati Roy” while it was overzealous in harassing organisations like the RSS.
“The government is soft-pedalling on people like Mr. Geelani and Ms. Arundhati Roy in spite of their seditious statements. A section of politicians in the ruling establishment are casting aspersions on the RSS to cover this up,” RSS spokesman Ram Madhav told a press conference here on Saturday. He alleged that some Congress leaders had gone overboard in defaming the RSS, as was evident from the resolution passed against the organisation at the recent AICC plenary and the implication of its functionaries in bomb blast cases.
Reiterating that the RSS had “zero tolerance” to terrorism of all varieties — Jehadis, Maoists, north east insurgents and Kashmiri militants — Mr. Madhav said efforts by the ruling establishment to drag senior functionaries like Indiresh Kumar into the charge-sheet without furnishing proofs smacked of conspiracy.
Recalling that the government as well as the U.S. State Department held the HuJI and the LeT responsible for bomb blasts at Ajmer, Hyderabad and on the Samjhauta Express, he said there was an effort to revive the old bogey of saffron terrorism, as could be seen from the government’s claims that these incidents were associated with “Hindu terror.”
The RSS would conduct dharnas at all State and district headquarters on November 10 in protest against the vindictive and politically motivated campaign and to educate people about the “anti-Hindu” and “anti-RSS canards” being spread by some leaders, he said.
