Government responds to B.Ed qualifiers

Hyderabad, October 25: The state government has responded positively to the B.Ed candidates who qualified in the DSC-2008 for Secondary Grade Teacher (SGT) posts.

About 400 qualifiers from the B.Ed stream have been protesting against allocating 30 per cent of the posts to D.Ed candidates. A final decision on the issue will be taken on Monday.

Meanwhile, the fast by five candidates entered the sixth day on Sunday even as the condition of three of them deteriorated.

Minister for secondary education D Manikyavara Prasad held talks with the representatives of Andhra Pradesh B.Ed Sudents Association at the MLA Quarters today and gave an assurance to them.

Briefing newsmen after the one-and-halfhour discussion, Manikyavara Prasad said the government was keen on rendering justice to both BEd and DEd qualifiers. “We decided to form a committee headed by the principal secretary to look into the matter considering the legal issues involved in providing 30 per cent quota to D.Ed candidates.

The government will take a final decision on Monday,” he said.

However, Pathuri Uma Maheswar Reddy, president of the AP B.Ed Students Association said they would continue their protest till the government conceded their demands.

“The government has completed selection for DSC 2008 through common merit and even sent appointment letters to 3,000 out of the 31,000 qualifiers. Implementing reservation for D.Ed candidates at this stage would deny jobs to many B.Ed qualifiers,” he said.
