Government mulls law for education security

Hyderabad, September 21: The state government is planning to bring in a law to provide ‘education security’ to poor students belonging to recognised categories under the fee reimbursement scheme.

Officials have been asked to work out the modalities of the proposed Act to make reimbursement of fee mandatory for poor students.

Briefing newsmen on the meeting of the Cabinet sub-committee on fee reimbursement scheme, social welfare minister P Subash Chandra Bose said the State government had cleared all the arrears pertaining to the fee reimbursement scheme. “The finance department has agreed to pay Rs 250 crore by October 10 towards final instalment of the fee arrears,” he said.

The minister said officials are working out on a payment schedule for fee reimbursement for the current academic year.

The schedule would be submitted to the High Court with an assurance that the government would stick to it, he added.

He felt that the move would instil confidence among students and college managements.
