New Delhi, Nov 25: After the extended ruckus over the sugarcane pricing policy that led to the consecutive adjournment of the upper and lower Houses of the Parliament, UPA government is hopeful about tabling a new sugarcane ordinance on prices.
According to Food and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, the government is optimistic about presenting a bill in place of the earlier bill in next week.
While convening a meeting to get the consensus on the ordinance issued for the replacement of the earlier bill, Pawar stated that he had elaborate discussions on the issues pinpointed by the leaders. The ministry is putting its effort to replace the Statutory Minimum Price with a Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP).
Pawar is expected to convene another meeting with the MPs of southern states, those who have protested against the clauses of the old bill and demanded speedy restoration of section 5A.
He further asserted that today’s meeting has been a productive one with some of the leaders reiterating on their demand to restore Section 5A of the Sugarcane Control Order. The order has a provision for price for sugarcane bought by mills in every season.
