‘The government would be able to decide its stand on medium of instruction in primary education only after studying the Supreme Court order,’ said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah referring to the Supreme Court verdict here on May 6.
Mr. Kimmane Ratnakar, minister for Primary and Secondary Education said, “This is a blow to all the States where regional languages are not getting due importance.” He also said that a meeting would be held with pro-kannada writers and Kannada Sahitya Parishat on May 7.
As per PTI report, a five-judge Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice R.M. Lodha was set up to look into the challenge regarding two government orders of 1994 according to which mother tongue or regional language was made compulsory for imparting education in classes I to IV.
The verdict of the Bench issued on May 7 was that, “The State has no power to compel linguistic minority to impart primary education, by compulsorily imposing regional language.”Courtesy:Karnataka Muslims
