Gorakhpur, Phulpur will not repeat: BJP to ensure heavy polling in Kairana

Lucknow: After facing a tough competition and defeat in Karnataka, Gorakhpur and Phulpur elections, BJP now eyes on Kairana bypoll that is scheduled to take place on May 28. With 33 percent Muslims, 10 percent Jat and 15 percent Dalit voters, Kairana election seems easy for RLD, SP and BSP.

Jats in western UP, who had earlier backed BJP in 2014 and 2017, may take a U-turn in the upcoming election due to heavy sugarcane dues. As per a report by Navbharat Times, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday gave his assurance to people in his first rally that if sugar mills are unable to pay dues to sugarcane farmers, the state government will come forward with a new package for them.

Meanwhile, Begum Tabassum Hasan, an RLD candidate who has SP’s support, said that Jats are angry with the BJP. “This will be the first time when Jats, Muslims and Dalits will vote for us together. There is no match here. This will end the bitterness of Muzaffarnagar riots,” she said as per an ET report.

Moreover, the BJP is determined to ensure a high turnout in Kairana bypoll, unlike Gorakhpur and Phulpur. This time it wants to gain votes of its supporters present among other backward classes and Dalits as well as it is trying to ensure that they cast their votes.
