After being suspended for two years and spending almost nine months in prison Dr. Kafeel Khan, who was accused in the 2017 Gorakhpur children death case, was cleared of charges by the Yogi Adityanath government.
The 15-page UP government inquiry report cleared Dr Kafeel of all negligence and corruption charges in the case.
A jubilant Kafeel
Expressing jubilation over the news, Dr Kafeel, speaking exclusivley with India Today TV, said, “I am very happy today. Very good news has come for my whole family after two years.”
Dr Kafeel said, “This inquiry report had been ordered by CM Yogi Adityanath himself on August 22, 2017. It was to be finished in 90 days but lingered on for two years.”
“The report has agreed that on that night (August 10, 2017) liquid oxygen had run out and my team got 500 cylinders in 54 hours. They have admitted there was a shortage of liquid oxygen because the Yogi government didn’t pay vendors because of which kids died.”
Innocence Proven
Dr Kafeel, speaking to News 18 said that he always knew he was innocent.
“On that fateful day, I did what I could do best, as a doctor, a father and a common Indian. But I was thrown behind bars, vilified by the media, my family was harassed and I was suspended from my job.”
Hope murderer tag will be wiped
A visibly emotional Dr Kafeel Khan said in the video “For two years I have been carrying the tag of ‘murderer’. Hopefully, it will be washed away now.”
70 children mostly infants, died within a week in August 2017 at the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur due to disruption in oxygen supply over unpaid bills to the vendor.
