Google wave invites volunteers to start preview

New York, October 01: Google is all set to offer a wider preview of its Google Wave as a compelling platform for real time streaming communication. The company (Google) is all set to send out invites for preview to those individuals that have signed up for feedback.

Google Wave’s Project Manager Dan Peterson said that the preview will be done on the platform’s own website rather than on the “sandboxes” that developers were using for the Beta version since May and that the company will engage up to 100,000 users who will report any bugs. These users had signed up earlier to volunteer for testing and preview of the new platform.

Google Wave, which is a combination of email, IM and groupware, is based on the HTML5 standard. Individuals can now work and communicate simultaneously while using richly formatted text and various media like videos and pictures. Maps, different types of gadgets and different software could also be used for the same purpose. Google Wave creator Lars Rasmussen explained its working thus: “In Google Wave you create a Wave and add people to it, and everyone on your Wave can use richly formatted text, photos, gadgets and even feeds from other sources on the Web. They can insert a reply or edit a Wave directly.”

Collaborators on Google Wave get real time updates when any user makes changes on the Wave, and this makes the collaboration process, which Rasmussen calls, “concurrent rich-text editing” well suited to instant messaging as well as persistent content. This makes Google Wave the most compelling platform for both communication and collaboration.
